Sayyid Ahmad and the Second Revolution

One of the most important events, which happened in the first year of the Islamic revolution, was the occupation of the American embassy or espionage den in Iran on the 4thof November 1979. This gave rise to many radical transformations regarding the internal policies of Iran and the foreign relations of the Islamic republic. The effects and consequences of this event have always been put forward as one of the main factors in Iranian politics.

The hostages taken from the American embassy were detained for a total of 444 days. Their release was decided by the Islamic Consultative Assembly. The Imam consulted Sayyid Ahmad in all matters related to the revolution. In addition to delivering the Imam’s messages to the officials and presenting the surest ways of informing the Imam of the details of this important event, he himself, as an expert on political issues, presented his analysis of this event in several public interviews. He emphasized the need to support the university students who occupied the American embassy. Sayyid Ahmad was the first person after Imam Khomeini to declare, in a press conference held at the occupied embassy, that “All Iranian people support this act”.
