The lady’s self-sacrificing nature was the reason behind His holiness the Imam’s strong affection for his wife. He would always remark: “My lady is incomparable.” She bore hardships for fifteen years in the hot and sultry climatic conditions of the city of Najaf and was always at the side of the Imam and accompanied him everywhere. This was despite the fact that she had lived in comfortable circumstances in her parental mansion and was no more than fifteen years old when she settled in the Imam’s home. It seems that in those days, she was not very fond of the city of Qom but she never mentioned this to the Imam. In response to our question that “What should we do so that our husbands would love us as much you love your wife?” the Imam would say: “If you too become as much self-sacrificing as she then your husbands will love you to the same extent until the end.”
