Eid al-Ghadeer is a day which many Shi’as all over the world celebrate. It is the day when Amir al-Mu’mineen was named the successor of the Prophet (saw). The sermon the Prophet (saw) read on this day has been recorded not only by the Shia but also by authentic Sunni sources. The Prophet (saw) talks of two weighty things, the Qur’an and the household of the Prophet (saw), which Muslims must cling on to in order to stay on the true path of Islam. Unfortunately this sermon is overlooked by many Sunni Muslims.

It has been known to Almighty God that after the Messenger of Allah there is no one among men who could implement justice in a pleasing and efficient manner. He commissioned the Messenger of Allah to appoint this person who had the power to implement justice in its true sense in the society and have a divine government.

In this statement Ayatollah Khamenei talked of the recent movements and uprisings in the Arab World and stated that these uprisings were due to the Islamic awakening of different societies. Furthermore he added that in order for these uprisings to be successful, people must be resolute and must not be fooled by the deceit or trickery used by some powerful countries to break up their unity. Without unity and persistence no uprising can achieve anything.
